One of Toronto’s leading pitch competitions is back! The Digital Media and Gaming Incubator at George Brown College is proud to present the 2018 IT’S A START Pitch Competition.
Next April, ten startups will be selected to pitch their ideas in front of a live audience and judges at Digifest 2018. All startups have the opportunity to pitch their business idea, convince the judges of its value, and impress the crowd in 5 minutes for the chance to win cash, space along with an opportunity to attend Beijing’s Overseas Talent Entrepreneurship Conference.
If you have an idea for a smart sustainable future product or service, please submit an application. We invite everyone from creative professionals, budding entrepreneurs, new startups, students or recent graduates to submit. Whether your business is a Mobile App, Game, VR/AR Media, Digital Design, AI, or Robotics, we would love to hear your ground breaking ideas.
On December 7, 2017, hackABILITY will raise awareness about emerging technology opportunities in the area of assistive technology, as well as support collaboration between educational institutions and established businesses. hackABILITY is facilitating the rapid prototyping of devices that may be considered for further development and commercialization.
hackABILITY is bringing together teams to create solutions for defined assistive/adaptive needs in the community. hackABILITY teams consist of at least 4 people including a person with a disability or a caregiver, plus members with experience in design, coding, and engineering. Solutions will be assessed based on innovation, scalability and affordability criteria.

Speaker bio: Andrew Kirkland, President of Justwealth Financial, is an experienced investment professional who has an unwavering passion for investing, financial planning, and making things right for his clients. Over the last decade, Andrew assumed roles of increasing responsibility at one of Canada’s largest independent asset managers in the areas of client servicing, operations and business development. Andrew obtained his education from the University of Guelph-Humber where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration. Andrew holds the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Chartered Investment Manager designations (CIM).

Since 2011, Digifest has been bringing together a dynamic audience of creative professionals from across the country. Attendees are leading voices from the creative industries including graphic designers, web and interactive designers, art directors, studio managers as well as faculty and students from advertising, technology, business, retail, education, and government. It is organized annually by the Digital Media and Gaming Incubator at George Brown College.
Each year, Digifest introduces a new and exciting theme that correlates with changes and development in the current technological environment. This year’s theme, Hello Tomorrow: Our Creative Cities is about improving our quality of life and making creative cities of the future better through design, innovation, and technology.
